Jin-guangfu Mansion National Historic Site (Photo-taking)
Construction of Jin-guangfu Mansion started in 1835. Several government officials in Tamsui, Li Ciye, Jiang Xiuluan, and Zhou Bangzheng, set up a settler organization called "Jin-Guangfu which became a licensed settler organization." They were permitted by the government to cultivate land for the production of crops in the southeastern mountain region of Zhuqian. Jiang Xiuluan led farmers from Guandong and Fujian areas to cultivate lands and built 36 passage checkpoints with cabins known as "Daai". The Jin-guangfu Mansion served as the command post for the organization and an administration center for collecting rent from farmers. A horizontal plaque was placed on the lintel inscribed with three Chinese characters "Jin Guang Fu", where "Jin" means "good luck," "Guang" refers to the Hakka, and “Fu” means business men from Fukien who provided settlers with funds for cultivating land. This was an example that showed how people from different regions were able to work together.

Lei Cha DIY (Hakka Famous Ground Tea)
In the past, because of war, migration, and lack of materials, the Hakka people had to be ingenious in order to maintain their tradition of being very hospitable when guests visited. They would have only a small amount of grain in the house, and worried about the poor reception for the guests, they would fry the grain, add a little tea and place the mixture in a mortar and slowly ground the ingredients with a pestle, until it becomes powder form. Then they would brew the powder with hot water, turning what was originally a little grain into a fragrant tea that was full of aroma and able to quench hunger and thirst.

In the early years, brigands often appeared in the Pingxi area; therefore, sky lanterns served as a signal of safety. In the 1990s, sky lanterns were featured as a Pingxi folk activity, which created a new tourism attraction for Pingxi, where the population was flowing out. Nowadays, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival in New Taipei City has become an important celebration during Taiwan’s Lantern Festival, which is known as the “Sky Lanterns in Northern Taiwan and Beehive Fireworks in Southern Taiwan.” It has even made the headlines of international news media on several occasions, becoming the most representative festival of New Taipei City.
